This presentation includes theory and research on second language
acquisition. Lesson development for English Language Learners and
sheltered instructional stratgies will also be presented. Participants
will be involved in activities that develop oral language and integrate
hands-on activities for use in the second language classroom.
Participants will also become familiar with the different stages of
language development and appropriate activities for the ESL classroom.
Best Practices for ESL instruction will also be discussed.
Dr. Frank Lucido
is the chairman of the Teacher Education department at Texas A&M
University, Corpus Christi and the director of the Institute for Second
Language Achievement. He has been a teacher for over forty years
at the elementary, secondary and university level. He received
the Distinguished Faculty Achievement award from the university in 2004.
Dr. Lucido has written many books and articles in the field of ESL and bilingual education. His latest book, Best Practices for English Language Learners, is scheduled to be published this year.
