Summary: Today's mathematics curriculum requires
students to think and perform at higher levels than ever before.
Learn how the role of questioning influences and promotes the
development of critical thinking skills and deeper mathematical
understandings. As a seminar participant, you will be actively engaged
in group and individual activities designed to:
-Expand your understanding of various questioning processes;
-Develop your understanding of the nature and function of questions
related to increasing mathematical content knowledge;
-Further develop your skills in question construction;
-Promote self assessment of questions;
-Raise your awareness of research in thinking, metacognition, and
higher-order cognitive processing
-Learn how to use the 10 minute walk-through as a strategy to provide a
school-wide picture made of many small snapshots of mathematics
instruction on their campus not just individual teachers.
Specific suggestions on what to look for in math classrooms will be
shared.
