    Summary:
RTI: Teaching for the Next Century!
In consultation with TEA, Dr. Bender has developed a series of strategies for preparing educators for the newly emerging perspective of response to intervention.  Using ideas from his book on that topic, he walks participants through the RTI process using the three tier model adopted in Texas, and presents the tough issues, and possible pitfalls, while advocating RTI as the most effective teaching model for struggling students.  Educators from various districts discuss their district's plans in an information sharing session in the afternoon, with Dr. Bender responding to various ideas.  Educators will leave with the tools to work with their faculty to prepare for RTI district wide implementation.

    Don't Teach Harder, Teach Smarter
In this workshop, Dr. Bender uses techniques from his best selling professional development book, Differentiated Instruction for Students With Learning Disabilities, Second Edition, to explain how to plan a differentiated lesson, based on techniques from the latest brain compatible instruction research.  Dr. Bender discusses those modifications on particular students in the class, including gifted students and students with ADHD, BD, or LD.  Teachers and Administrators participate in numerous demonstrations for all grade levels, including movement-based instruction across the grade levels, using songs/chants, novelty to facilitate high impact teaching, and motivational strategies.  In the afternoon, teachers work in small groups and develop a differentiated 10-day unit of instruction on the topic of their choice, thus providing an experiential basis for their work.
