    Summary: Written as a series of candid dialogues between the author and K-12 students, teachers, counselors and administrators, Activating the Desire to Learn covers everything you need to know to change the dynamics of learning in your classroom or school:

    - A comprehensive overview of the research on internal motivation;
    - Case studies of strategies for activating internal motivation at the elementary, middle and high school levels;
    - Suggestions on how to assess degrees of student motivation; and
    - Guidelines for integrating the priciples of internal motivation with standards-based instruction.

    Motivating students is not the issue: the hunger to learn is ever-present.  Yet schools continue to insist on the traditional reward-punishment model, to the detriment of student achievement.  Clearly it is time for change.  This engaging and thought-provoking session will help you create a culture of achievement by building on the inherent drive to succeed that students bring to the classroom every day.

    About the presenter: Bob Sullo has been an English teacher, school psychologist, school adjustment counselor and school administrator.  During his career of more than 30 years in public education, he has worked with students from pre-kindergarten through high school.  Bob has also taught at the college level for more than 15 years, teaching courses on both the graduate and undergraduate level.  He is a senior faculty member of the William Glasser Institute.

    He has provided workshops and trainings to schools, agencies and businesses in more than two dozen states.  He has presented at national and international conferences in the United States and abroad.

    In addition to consulting, Bob has written several books about internal control and motivation.  His most recent book, Activating the Desire to Learn, was published in January of 2007 by ASCD International and provided to more than 100,000 educators worldwide.  Using a case study format, this book shows teachers, counselors, administrators and students applying the principles of internal control psychology to transform schools into more joyous, academically inspiring environments.
